Leon's Pizza

For over 40 years, Leon's Pizza has been serving up delicious meals to customers in Webster City. It takes just one bite to realize why it's been a downtown staple for so long.

When I first came to Webster City about two years ago, I took a chance to explore many restaurants. With many fond memories of local pizza places, I was excited to try out Leon's Pizza. I was not let down. With mouth-watering cheese and a sauce that compliments the taste of the many toppings I've tried, it became a regular staple at weekend get-togethers and on busy days at the office.

My usual order is a pepperoni pizza and a side order of jalapeno poppers. When I visited recently, Leon, the owner of the restaurant, recommended that I try one of their classic pizzas topped with pepperoni and sausage. I admit I was wary, only because I had too many experiences with pizza places who have tasteless or over-spiced sausage. Once again, Leon's didn't let me down. The spice of the sausage and the classic taste of pepperoni mixed perfectly with the rest of the pizza in my mouth. I think I might have a new usual order to buy now.

Their namesake dish has always been my favorite, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the rest of the menu at Leon's Pizza. Several weeks ago, a co-worker told me about the incredible chicken the restaurant serves. I asked Leon for a couple pieces of fried chicken and was just blown away. The chicken was so tender it slipped off the bone into my mouth. The breading was amazing as well. Leon said that's because they bread all of their fried chicken right there in the restaurant. I never would have guessed that such great fried chicken would have been available just down the street from my office.

I've just hit the tip of the iceberg. Leon's has many specialty pizzas, pasta, sandwiches and more. Check out their menu on their Facebook page. If you visit, be sure to say hi to Leon. Through decades of work at the restaurant, he told me that his favorite part is talking with community members who come to visit.
