IMCA Mods and Sport Mods take to the track minus their roofs and sail panels but with roll cages intact.

Mods run a 50-lap feature which starts 30 cars on the track. The Sport Mod feature runs for 30 laps. There is a mid-point stop for each race which allows drivers and their pit crews to adjust the cars, refuel and change just one tire. The pit stop takes place on the front stretch in front of the Grandstand and is monitored closely by track officials and safety personnel.

Darrel DeFrance, #99D Late Model, from Marshalltown has been racing the Historic Half-Mile for more than thirty years. He began his racing career in 1976 in Street Stock, moving to a Stock Car and finally to the Late Model class in 1987. His Dad, Dale DeFrance, raced Super Stocks on the Webster City track in the late 1960's and continues to crew for his son.

DeFrance holds three National IMCA Late Model Championships, two Super National titles along with more than two dozen track championships, including four from the Hamilton County Speedway. "The Ironman" has raced every single Deery Brothers Late Model series event beginning in April 1987. With a new 2016 Late Model this year it doesn't seem likely he will be retiring any time soon, especially since he is still chasing that Deery Brothers Late Model championship.

The Hamilton County Speedway Racing Association purchased a new electronic scoreboard for the track. Recording cables are in and officials are fine-tuning the timing.

Each race car on the track will be required to run with a transponder which records data which is transmitted to a computer program each time the car crosses the recording cable. Position and car number will then automatically appear on the new scoreboard.
