From the mayor

City Scene

G`day everyone. It's been an interesting year for me as Mayor. I went from being a councilman wanting to be more involved to maybe being more involved than I wish at times. I have wondered at times if I was cursed as people keep leaving since I started as Mayor. First our city manager, then our fire chief, and next our building inspector. What is going on, but it was not me it was just progress and the city will change a little each time and as long as it is for the better each time, we will be stronger for it. I would like to thank Kent Harfst and the rest of the city staff for all the help and extra they have done to keep us going forward for the last 7 months while we searched and found our new city manager, Daniel Ortiz-Hernandez, who we will be glad to see on Halloween. We are going to be dealing with some big issues over the next few months with an Electric rate study, the Waste Water Treatment plant, Brewer Creek 5 & 6 and how to get back to everyone having pride in their house, their yard and helping their friends and neighbors to keep them tidy and clean. The more dilapidated we let things get the less our block is worth, not just the one house. Maybe your neighbor needs some help to get started or a pickup to haul to the landfill, let`s see what we can do together. We are going to be more active in the standards of rental properties and housing in general. We have a good city council capable of handling these issues. I look forward to Daniel and his family arriving so he can help us solve these issues and more, but whatever the outcome remember the council is his boss and if you don`t like what happens it is the council who you have the problem with, not our manager. Please take time to talk to your council members when you see them out and about the town, ask the questions you have on your mind, share your thoughts and ideas, we are interested. Thank you.
